Pitch

Live the odyssey of Martín Fierro in a journey full of unique challenges. Master the rhythm of the guitar, face duels, and survive nature by challenging the wind and the wild fauna, while the legend of the gaucho comes to life through the verses of the epic 19th-century novel.

Description

Gameplay

This game is an interactive adaptation of El gaucho Martín Fierro. Through various minigames, the player will discover the story of the legendary gaucho, narrated in verses taken directly from the original work. Each level offers a different mechanic, from rhythm challenges and skill-based tests to duels and puzzles, reflecting different moments of Fierro's journey.

Difficulty

The game is designed to be accessible to all types of players. The mechanics are simple and easy to learn, allowing anyone to immerse themselves in the story without difficulty barriers.

Graphics

The visual style aims to convey the simplicity, and even the harshness, of life in the Argentine pampas in the mid-19th century. With an aesthetic inspired by literature and gaucho folklore, the graphics evoke the feeling of being inside the pages of a book.

Story

The story of Martín Fierro is filled with tragedy, injustice, and struggle, but also with wisdom and reflection. As the game progresses, the verses narrate the life of the wandering gaucho, his confrontations with authority, his losses, and his quest for freedom.

Duration

The game can be completed in about 1 hour. More than an extensive challenge, it is a short experience designed as a gateway to the story of Martín Fierro. If it sparks your curiosity about the original work, then it has fulfilled its purpose.

Literary Adaptation

All the verses in the game are taken directly from the original work. Although, for obvious reasons, a large part of the text has been omitted, the essence of the story remains intact. This game is not only a tribute to Martín Fierro but also a way to bring its legacy to new generations through interactivity.

History

The game was born as an idea to tell the story of the book, adapting it in a very simple way: through payadas. Payadas are songs performed with a guitar. Sometimes they take the form of a conversation (like a competition), while other times they are simply recited aloud.

My original idea was for Fierro himself to narrate his story through a gameplay style similar to Guitar Hero, where verses would progressively unlock. However, I quickly realized two things:

The game was too difficult. Having almost random notes over payada melodies that the player didn’t know made the gameplay overly complicated.

The game wasn’t very appealing as a game, since it completely disregarded the visual aspect of the story.

I then attempted to interpret the more advanced chapters of the book to see if they could be adapted into a visual representation that would also allow for some type of gameplay. In some cases, like the duel, this was clear. However, in others, the story was too abstract or contained an overwhelming variety of characters, situations, and locations.

The key was to summarize the story, refine the elements that didn’t add much, remove certain aspects, and reinterpret others. Only then was I finally able to shape a project that felt cohesive and complete in every way.
